ATC simulator is a system designated for maintaining and refining training of air traffic controllers with simulated scenarios situation supported by pseudo-pilots and generated targets.

The simulator holds a great importance from several points of view. Pedagogical significance consists in respecting didactic principles (lucidity, process going from simple situations to more complicated and eventually towards solving hazard ones, possibility to repeat or slow down the trained situation). Psychological significance consists in reducing the initial strain, especially in such situation when the activity at the real workstation induces controller's stress. 
Result of the gradual load during the training at the simulator is to acquire correct routine in solving complicated situations. Step by step practice of difficult and emergency situations of various kinds prepares student for decreasing the human factor failure in human-instrument system to absolute minimum. Everything is contingent on level of simulation, though, so the acquired routine reflects the activities during operation of real equipment.

The main features

• Application software is developed in programming language C/C++, system X Window and QT user interface components working in OS Linux.
• The simulator itself consists of several parts which are connected by TCP/IP (RCP) protocol network: pseudo-pilot' s workstation, student's workstation (EC and PLC position), FDP, simulation module ATG, data and voice communication recorder, exercise preparation and dataset edition, EMAN – control simulator.

Advantages

• Student's workstation is the standard CWS workstation.
• Number of pseudo-pilots and students is theoretically unlimited.
• All pilots participating this exercise do not have to be presented during the operation start-up. They can also leave at any moment of the exercise with the possibility to take over all controlled flights to other pseudo-pilots.
