Aeration systems

Aeration systems

Fine-bubble, medium-bubble and coarse-bubble aeration elements with flexible membranes

Use

They are intended for mixing and aeration of water in activating and deaerating reservoirs of waste water treatment plants or for aeration of other liquids, for aeration of fish breeding facilities, fishponds and reservoirs, or for pneumatic flotation.

Dimensioning

The aeration system is dimensioned according to the selected technology, necessary oxygen quantity or mixing requirements, necessary overpressure, method of regulation, shape and type of reservoirs.

Description of the main parts of the aeration system

  • compressed air source (we will provide for a supply from the manufacturer based on the customer’s requirements) high-pressure fans, rotary Roots chargers, turboblowers, membrane blowers suitable for the supply of compressed air without oil and mechanical impurities
  • feed piping including fittings starts at the compressed airsource discharge piping and ends in the treatment plant reservoir 1 – 1.5 m underwater. Piping is usually made of PP or stainless steel, and control and shutter valves are installed at the reservoir edge for each grid
  • aeration elements distribution pipeline serves for even air distribution to the separate lines of aeration elements, and at the same time it is their supporting element providing for the distribution of air. The connecting flange for connection to the feed piping is installed 1 – 1.5 m underwater. Aeration grid may be rigidly anchored and removable in operation, they are made of PP pipes and fittings, interconnected by polyfusion welding, or in special cases they are made of round or quadrangular stainless steel sections. The rigid aeration grids are anchored in the bottom using the height-adjustable supports fixed in concrete weights, or in stainless steel anchors laid in the reservoir bottom. The supports allow height adjustment, and therefore levelling of the pipe and aeration elements.  The removable aeration grids are installed by pulling-in using ropes through the rollers, or using the concrete weights, or they are guided to the bottom by guide bars.
  • aeration elements – terminal elements distributing the air stream to fine bubbles bubbling through the water.

Aeration elements are divided according to the nature of perforation to fine-bubble elements suitable for aeration of activation reservoirs (AME-260, AME-350, AME-T750, AME-T370, AME-D, AME-T90), medium-bubble elements for stabilizing, accumulating and equalizing reservoirs (AME-260S), and coarse-bubble elements suitable for mixing the content of sand traps, deaerating zones and other reservoirs (AME-P).

Aeration system membranes are made of EPDM, eventually EPDM with teflon surface in AME-350F (suitable for sink water and some industrial waters without non-polar extractive substance e.g. oils, petrol, polar extractive substance e.g. animal fats and solvents), or of silicon SR (for waters with higher temperature containing polar extractive substance), or of polyurethane PUB (suitable for industrial waters containing non-polar extractive substance but without urea and polar extractive substance). As to the design, the aeration elements are disk-shaped (AME-260, AME-260S, AME-350, AME-P), tabular (AME-D) or tubular (AME-T370, AME-T750, AME-T90). As a standard, the aeration element body is made of PP, however, it may be made of stainless steel in case of tubular elements.

Grid drain system. Water condensed in the system is drained to the aeration grid drain pit, and from there it is drawn through a pipe with valve ending above the reservoir water level. The drain pipe is anchored in the reservoir wall.

Advantages of the aeration system:

  • High percentage of the atmospheric oxygen use
  • Very low pressure loss
  • Fast and simple installation, long service life
  • Resistance to element clogging
  • Energy saving
  • Possibility of intermittent service and automatic control
  • Unexacting maintenance, minimal servicing requirements
  • Simple exchange of element membranes
  • Suitable for all shapes of reservoirs
  • Versatile use for municipal as well as industrial waste waters thanks to a wide range of aeration elements and variability of aeration grid

For new and redeveloped waste water treatment plants, we shall elaborate, free of charge, an offer for the best-fit aeration system to ensure the customer-specific parameters.
